The newspaper “Zakon i Biznes” — one of the leading legal publications in Ukraine — has published a feature on the speech delivered by the Managing Partner of AO “Juris Ferrum” Ganna Gnizdovska on the protection of the rights of minor athletes.
The event took place at the Lawyers’ Club of the Academy of Consulting Business and was dedicated to the topic “Specific Features of Protecting the Rights of Minor Athletes” — an increasingly relevant issue in the practice of sports lawyers.
During the event, key challenges arising in the preparation and participation of children in competitions, the conclusion of contracts, and the conduct of doping control were discussed, as well as practical approaches to addressing them.
Among the issues addressed:
- Status of a minor athlete — rights, obligations, participation in competitions, and representation in contract matters.
- Access to competitions and disciplinary liability — grounds for refusal of participation and methods of challenging sanctions.
- Anti-doping procedures — the status of a “protected person” under the WADA Code, the role of legal representatives during testing, and international practice on sanction mitigation.
- Liability for injuries to minors — a case study involving the collapse of a basketball backboard onto a child during a competition and compensation for non-pecuniary damage.
The speech sparked active discussion within the legal community, and participants had the opportunity to ask questions and receive the full presentation materials.
