At the same time, the need for clear and predictable legal regulation is rapidly increasing.
Ganna Gnizdovska — Managing Partner of Juris Ferrum Law Firm, Attorney, PhD in Law, and member of the Ukrainian Bar Association Committee on Sports Law — spoke during Session 2, “Artificial Intelligence and Data: A New Era of Sports Innovation.”
The session was moderated by Mykola Pototskyi, Deputy Director of the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations (UANIPIO/IP Office).
Ganna Gnizdovska presented a report titled “Practical Application of AI in Sport: Legal Risks and Limits of Use.”
In her presentation, she structured the discussion around three key blocks:

– training processes and game analytics;
– scouting and team formation;
– injury prediction;
– refereeing;
– fan engagement;
– commercialization of sports data.
🔹 Which legal mechanisms govern these areas:
The presentation analyzed current approaches to regulating the use of sports data, issues of data ownership, as well as the interaction between intellectual property regimes, personal data protection, and trade secrets.
🔹 The most potentially contentious areas:
Among the key challenges are the legal status of sports data, protection of players’ personal data , liability for decisions made using algorithms, and the balance between innovation and the protection of the rights of participants in the sports industry.
As Ganna Gnizdovska noted, sport today is at a point where technology is developing faster than legal regulation ⚖️.
