On 14 November, the XV International Scientific and Practical Conference “Advocacy: Past, Present and Future” took place — an event that became a truly intensive and insightful professional day. The conference was organized by the Department of Organization of Judicial, Law Enforcement Bodies and Advocacy of the National University “Odesa Law Academy” together with the Odesa Regional Bar Council.
As part of the conference, a series of masterclasses was held for students, delivered by members of the relevant Committees of the Odesa Regional Bar Council.
Our partners, Nadiia Gnizdovska and Ganna Gnizdovska, presented the masterclass of the Committee on Construction Law on the topic:
“How to Invest in Construction Projects: Legal Risks and Developer Due Diligence”.
During the session, they addressed issues that practicing lawyers face every day and that are especially relevant for students beginning to engage with real cases:
- how to verify a developer and assess their permitting documentation;
- what risks accompany investments in projects still under construction;
- which agreements are typically concluded at different stages and which mistakes may be costly;
- how to protect an investor if construction is halted or challenges arise with registering ownership rights.
Particular attention was given to construction due diligence — a core area of our team’s daily work and a topic that often saves investors from unpleasant surprises.
Students asked many questions — for many of them, high-profile cases involving dishonest developers are stories they know mainly from TikTok. We aimed to show that behind such stories lies complex legal work that is worth studying with due seriousness.
We are grateful to the organizers for the opportunity to speak about important issues and to share practical experience.
Looking forward to new meetings and new professional events! ⚖️
